Gr 2-4-A well-rounded look at dogs that help people. An engaging opening chapter describes the actions of a particular canine in action, although photographs often feature different dogs. Subsequent chapters reveal the many ways that each type of dog helps people, such as guide dogs, hearing dogs, and medical alert dogs. Specific details and skill sets, such as the differences between tracking and air-scenting rescue dogs, are clearly described and depicted in photographs. The final chapter focuses more on what the dogs need to learn rather than how it is taught. VERDICT Appealing and accessible introductions to an intriguing subject area.
