An Answer for Everything

From Delayed Gratification, a quarterly magazine that embraces "slow journalism," considering news as it looks months after it was breaking, these infographics answer 200 questions from the serious (How soon will the Earth overheat?), to the engaging (What have astronauts left on the moon?), to the slightly ridiculous (What is the best thing since sliced bread?). Points of entry are the detailed, specific index--perhaps the best bet--or a table of contents of sorts, which provides 12 broad categories, from life as a human being, to saving the planet, to sports, cities, and superstructures. The intersection of data and design yields rich, consideration-worthy results--not to mention offering provocative fodder for discussion and debate. The graphics are colorful, witty, and enhance the data presented. Accompanying text expands upon and clarifies the illustrations. The dry wit is bracing, and while the British origin is much in evidence, it does not detract from the overall appeal to American audiences. Given its appeal and the range of information presented, this is an excellent choice for secondary-school, community-college, and public libraries.
