Being a Swiftie has never felt like a one-sided relationship,"" entertainment writer and long-time Swift fan Pomarico writes about the special relationship the singer has with her fans, one she's cultivated since her start on the country music scene in Nashville in the mid-aughts. Early on, Swift would connect with fans via MySpace and YouTube vlogs, and she even hosted a meet-and-greet in Nashville in 2010 at CMA Fest several months before the release of her third album, Speak Now. As Swift's fame has grown, her relationship with her fans has evolved. She delights in dropping numeric clues and visual Easter eggs into her music videos and social media posts for fans to decode. Swift regularly sends her parents out into the audience at her record-breaking tours to pull fans backstage to meet her. Swift's latest album and Eras tour continue to break records, and her fans feel more connected to her than ever. Filled with pictures, graphics, and sidebars, this is a delightful, joyful, and personal tribute to Swift and her fans.

This rainbow confection of facts, trivia, and life as a Swiftie is a guide for newbies and a romp for fans. A fangirl herself, Pomarico introduces each chapter with a note about the stage of her own life when she heard a particular album. The chapters cover one or more of Taylor Swift's albums, focusing on song lyrics, where Swift was at in her life, and her outreach to fans on social media. There are stories from fans who met her, guides to dressing for the era, quotes, and other Swiftie trivia called out in colored textboxes or separate pages with color backgrounds and sketches, however their placement sometimes disrupts the flow of the narrative. Each era has a color and decorative theme, creating the effect of a fans' scrapbook. Swift's success, the backlash against it, and standing up for herself, other artists, and her fans are covered. Her marketing draws her fans in, seeking clues to song inspirations or album release dates, highlighting Swift's brilliance at maintaining her fans' and the public's interest. The Tortured Poet's Department, released more recently, does not receive the full treatment of her other releases. The last chapters focus on the Eras tour and rerecording her old albums. VERDICT A great first purchase for Swifties and people curious about her. The book reveals both her artistic side and her business sense, which have combined to bring her to dominance in the music industry.-Tamara Saarinen
