What can you do when everything goes wrong? From the creator of Ruby Finds a Worry comes a story about disappointment and having fun even when things don't go the way you hoped.
Bea is looking forward to the PERFECT day – her birthday. She can't wait to have the special time with family, presents, treats, and cake! But then things begin to go wrong. When a storm blows in, suddenly nothing is how Bea hoped it would be. None of the guests can come, and the mail can't be delivered with Bea's cards and gifts. Will there even be cake?! Everything seems completely ruined, and Bea's special day turns into a BAD day. Can Bea find a way to be okay-even in the middle of a very disappointing day?
Reassuring and hopeful, this book is a perfect starting point for helping kids learn to face disappointment, practice flexibility, and find fun where they least expect it.

K-Gr 3-From the author of Perfectly Norman comes a book about a day that does not turn out as planned. It's Bea's birthday, and she has been looking forward to it. Her grandparents and cousins are coming to celebrate with her. But the day before, a huge snowstorm comes, and no one can make it to her house. Bea is shattered by disappointment, but her family helps her turn the day around with a snow ride and perfect cake. Bright illustrations capture the events of the story and vividly show Bea's feelings. When things go wrong, the art style makes it look as if the pages have cracked and then slowly mended as Bea's outlook improves. Much like Kobi Yamada's What Do You Do with a Problem?, this book helps children develop strategies for coping with disappointment. The back matter provides practical ways for readers to lift their spirits when things don't go as planned. VERDICT A great SEL addition to all collections, especially where the other books in the series circulate well.-Heidi Dechief
